Carving a Walnut Deer Skull — Woodworking
1 min read
In this video I experiment with low-relief carving. "Dead Leaves" was created for a group show I was in last month, "April Showers," It was presented by my local drink and draw group, the Drawnk, and exhibited at Statix Gallery.
Low-relief/ Bas-relief carving is something I’ve wanted to try for a while. The technique is all about creating the illusion of depth on a relatively flat surface. I found out that controlling the shadows is key. Adding deep channels where you want a defined edge helped create dimension. The process is really fun, and I plan on exploring it more in the future!
Thanks for watching! Let me know in the comments what you think of the carving, and if you have any questions.
