This project started by a customer contacting us with an interest in converting her coffee table to a desk. We discussed several options and based on her table, we decided a pair of metal legs were the best solution for her desk. The customer wanted gold legs, so she took on the task of painting the black legs the gold color she wanted.
This is a unique coffee table that was made in India. The top is solid wood with holes drilled through it in a decorative pattern and metal inlays. The challenge with this table was to repair the broken corner on the apron as the table had warped and on of the corners had separated. The repair required cutting off part of the apron and reattaching it. The broken corner was also reattached with glue and a pin nailer.
Once the apron was repaired, the flaws needed to be filled. I used burn-in wax sticks to fill the voids and disguise the repair.
The legs were attached on an angle that allowed the customer to sit in the middle of the desk. This concept came together when I met with the customer and we collaborated on the desk leg configuration. It turned out well.
