What oil is best for lubricating the pump on a Coleman stove or lantern? I detail the best oil to use on your new model stove or a classic vintage stove.
The leather washer aka plunger cup that creates pressure in vintage stove is highly durable and can be re-hydrated with oil if it has shrunk.

Oil made for leather is best for the leather cup.
Motor oil or a light machine oil will work best with a rubber cup.

Light machine oil, motor oil, cooking oil will all get your pump working in a pinch.
Cooking oils break down over time and smell bad and become sticky.
Motor oil and machine oil are not good for leather in the long run.
